Dan Patrick Takes WHA’s Issues Forum Stage
West Houston Association
Lt. Governor Dan Patrick spoke to many familiar faces at the West Houston Association’s State Issues Forum on October 21, 2015. The “Light Governor” delivered a speech packed with anecdotes and information about the 84th Legislative Session and the need to provide opportunity to all Texans.

The Lieutenant Governor pointed out that many bills in the Senate were bi-partisan. Cooperation across the isles on key issues allowed the 84th Texas Senate to introduce a record setting number of bills. The Texas Legislature passed over 1,300 bills, which was a record for a new lieutenant governor. The 84th Legislature took on big issues and passed property tax reform and transportation funding bills that will help growth in Texas.

The speech then turned to current problems and solutions. “Where does Fred Caldwell build houses?” Lt. Governor Patrick asked the audience. “I’ll tell you—where there are good schools. Good communities also need good roads and infrastructure.” Lt. Governor Patrick made a compelling case to provide every family with more educational opportunities for their children. He reasoned that since good communities develop around good infrastructure and schools, finding ways to improve education and infrastructure without increasing taxes remains a major priority in Texas.
