President's Message |
Auggie Campbell, President, West Houston Association |
|
Happy holidays to all of our WHA members and friends. Before I came to the West Houston Association on November 2nd, several people told me that WHA has outstanding members. Over the past eight weeks, I have discovered that they were absolutely right. WHA’s members combine the best leaders, thinkers, and doers in our region. That helps explains why this area is growing faster and more intelligently than anywhere else in the United States.
I have learned so much from listening to our members, and I look forward to meeting with each of you and learning more. If you would like to schedule a time to meet with me, I would be very happy to come by your office or grab coffee somewhere. And you are always welcome at the WHA Office. Thanks to recent renovations and help from MetroNational, we have an excellent meeting space with a nice view of Memorial City.
During this time of uncertainty, we have an opportunity and a need to plan for our area’s future. This group can bring our expanding community closer together and improve the quality of life and the business environment in the 1,000 square miles that WHA represents like no other group can.
Thanks to the guidance of our board members, especially Peter Houghton and John Moody, Lindsey Woodard and I have a 2016 budget and schedule and a list of exciting initiatives. Peter has championed and established a committee structure and the Quality Planned Development program, which have substantially increased WHA’s relevance. John has already started working to build WHA by finding new members, being active in our committees, and asking all of the right questions.
Peter mentioned some of our new initiatives. We will launch a development and mentoring program called Grow West, which will include four exclusive events in 2016. We will also bring back our West Houston Elected Officials Reception, which we are planning for September. We also have made great progress on ongoing initiatives, such as mobility planning and drainage regulation. And we hope to work with you more closely to figure out ways to improve. Please call Lindsey or me to get more involved or just give us some ideas or feedback.
Since Lindsey and I will have plenty of news for this coming year, we will produce a newsletter each month in 2016. My future messages will be substantially shorter, but we have some very big news.
As many of you know, Lindsey Woodard is expecting twins in early February, and we are very excited for her and her husband, Chris. West Houston Association does not run without Lindsey. I am very thankful that she has planned and accomplished so much in the past six weeks, and it’s just one reason why I look forward to her return after maternity leave. Lindsey deserves a Scandinavian-sized break, but she is remarkably dedicated. We wish her and her growing family all of the best.
We wish you all of the best in 2016. We will have some challenges, but I hope by working together, we will be able to find some great opportunities in the coming year. Thank you for keeping West Houston strong and helping WHA provide leadership in quality growth.
