TWRC Wildlife Center Seeks a New Home by Cheryl Conley

West Houston Association

Since 1979, TWRC Wildlife Center has been committed to providing quality emergency care and rehabilitation for injured, ill, and orphaned wildlife brought to TWRC by the public. Now, TWRC needs some assistance finding a new location.

TWRC was originally established to care for wildlife harmed by oil spills and has expanded its role to deal with the loss of habitats due to urban expansion. Most injuries to wildlife are sustained daily from encounters with cats, vehicles, windows, poisonings, and gunshots.

TWRC provides offsite community programs, festivals and corporate events, provide interactions with the public which allow us to highlight environmental issues and concerns that impact both humans and the wildlife in their midst. TWRC hopes to increase its community outreach and program offerings, such as educational and enrichment opportunities to disadvantaged children in the community.

TWRC is seeking to relocate its facility at 10801 Hammerly Blvd. temporarily (3-5 years) or permanently. TWRC is a 501(c)(3) organization and even a rent-free arrangement may provide an opportunity for a company with excess lease space. TWRC seeks square footage of at least 5,500 square feet for offices, public lobby, admissions, volunteer training, lunchroom, vet room, bathrooms, and onsite animal care of baby mammals/birds. Property with parking area is essential (TWRC hosts more than 600 volunteers yearly). Adjacent, accessible land would be ideal to be able to offer outside activities for children. For more information, please contact TWRC’s Executive Director, Roslyn Even, at 713-468-8972.
