WHA Policy Intern Amanda Kraynok: My Experience at WHA

West Houston AssociationMy past two years at Texas Tech University School of law showed me what the law is and how to think about legal principles. My time at WHA allowed me to not only apply my education, but to study and understand how these decisions impact long term urban planning and development. I saw organizations pull together individuals with expertise from various fields such as law, engineering, data analysis, education, healthcare, and many more to serve the common purpose of developing and sustaining Greater West Houston. All of the individuals that I encountered were incredible at what they did and cared deeply about their community.

I worked on a number of projects at WHA. Most importantly, I researched, briefed, and analyzed ways to mitigate flooding to prevent the effects of the Tax Day floods of this past year from occurring again in the future. I also researched upcoming legislative issues that are likely to effect the Greater West Houston Area. Attending events and at times assisting with events, such as the WHA Executive Committee, Transportation Policy Council meetings, WHA's Purple Pipe Forum, WHA Rising Leaders Evening, and the Houston-Galveston Area Councils new Road Warriors Media Event gave me valuable perspectives on the leadership and issues that matter in Greater West Houston.

WHA is a great organization with outstanding leaders and a rich history and a bright future in serving the needs of the people in Greater West Houston. It was an honor to intern there this summer.
