Preview: 2016 Demographic & Economic Profile by CDS

West Houston AssociationIn a draft version of the 2016 Economic & Demographic Profile in October 2016, CDS predicts slightly slower population growth and slightly higher job growth in the Greater West Houston than predicted in 2014. Approximately 110,000 fewer people will move to Greater West Houston by 2020 than anticipated.

“The downturn in the energy sector in 2015 and 2016 slowed population growth in Greater West Houston, but we predict growth will rebound and continue along pre-2015 levels starting in 2017” said Steve Spillette, President of CDS.

West Houston Association Somewhat counterintuitively, job growth is not expected to suffer as sharp of a decline. CDS now predicts that 570,000 jobs will be based in Greater West Houston in 2020, which is 20,000 fewer than predicted in 2014. However, CDS predicts job growth in the area will occur faster than predicted in 2014 and that over 1,000,000 jobs will be based in Houston by 2050.

The West Houston Association intends to provide members with a copy of the final Economic and Demographic Report by the end of the year. The 2017 WHA Development Map should be available in February 2017.
